Middle Years Programme (MYP)

At Albanian College Tirana, our Middle Years Programme (MYP) offers students aged 11 to 16 a challenging, inclusive, and global curriculum designed to develop critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and compassionate global citizens. This programme fosters intellectual growth, personal responsibility, and a commitment to intercultural understanding, providing a strong foundation for future academic and personal success.

A Holistic Approach to Learning

Our MYP emphasizes a holistic approach, where academic rigor is complemented by the development of social, emotional, and physical well-being. With subjects ranging from sciences, mathematics, and languages  to the arts and design, students experience a rich, interconnected curriculum. Each subject encourages inquiry, reflection, and real-world connections, empowering students to explore their place in a complex world.

Key Concepts and Global Contexts

Learning in the MYP is driven by key concepts and global contexts that encourage students to think critically and see beyond subject boundaries. With concepts like change, systems, relationships, and identity, students gain a deeper understanding of essential ideas that shape the world. Global contexts such as identities and relationships, globalization, and sustainability ensure that learning is grounded in issues of relevance, helping students make meaningful connections between their studies and global challenges.

Skill Development and Approaches to Learning (ATL)

A distinctive feature of the MYP is the focus on Approaches to Learning (ATL), where students cultivate essential skills for academic and personal success. Through targeted development of communication, collaboration, research, and critical thinking skills, students become more independent and effective learners. These skills are embedded across all subjects, preparing students not just for success in the classroom, but for lifelong learning and adaptability.

Service as Action and Personal Projects

Service and community involvement are central to the MYP experience. Students are encouraged to initiate projects that address local or global issues, fostering empathy, responsibility, and action. The MYP culminates in the Personal Project, a year-long independent research initiative that allows students to pursue their passions, showcasing their ability to plan, research, and execute a project of their own design.

Preparing for the Future

The MYP serves as an excellent foundation for the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and further educational pursuits. Through the MYP, students gain academic strength, intercultural awareness, and a strong sense of self. Our teachers work closely with students, nurturing an environment where curiosity is celebrated, and students are encouraged to become open-minded, resilient, and reflective individuals.
